News from My Studio

April 23, 2009

It's Official!

Spring has arrived! Today was the first day I could hang clothes on the line since last fall. I had to wade through snow up to my knees in order to do it, but it was worth it to see them flapping in the warm breeze! It's taken a while for the snow to melt, but the warm weather is finally here, and I am enjoying watching the ducks and geese swimming on the creek. It's inspiring to walk through my garden every day to find new plants peeking up through the snow. I can hardly wait until it is warm enough to draw and paint outside!

Much as I am looking forward to creating art outdoors, I do enjoy the time I spend in my studio in the winter. It is a chance to practise known techniques and to learn new ones. I took three workshops this winter with three wonderful local artists. Here are a couple of examples of work I did at the workshops:

Illusions Mixed Media Painting by Julie A. Brown Wabi Brook Studio

I wrote about this painting I completed in a workshop with Faye Digulla on my blog.

This water lily was done in Diane Green's workshop. Click on the photo to go to my write up about it.

Now Available in Stores!

I am pleased to announce that some of my work is now available in “bricks and mortar” shops and galleries.

In New Liskeard, you can find a selection of my jewellery at Fashion Fix. Located on Armstrong Street below Not So Naked Designs, this organic hair salon is a perfect fit with my earth-friendly jewellery. Do drop in and have a look at Stephanie's beautiful shop – and my jewellery, too!

I also have a few of my paintings on display at the Foto Shop Gallery on Lakeshore Drive, on the curve just heading out of town. Harold Rhodes operates a busy framing shop and is an avid supporter of local artists. There are many beautiful pieces of art on display in his gallery, so stop in and have a look!

Soul Sister Creations in North Bay is also carrying several new lines of my jewellery. Many of these items were designed exclusively for Soul Sister, and are not available anywhere else! This wonderful little shop is located on Oak Street, and features only work made by women. You can read more about the shop on their website.

Wabi Brook Studio Online

My online shop at Etsy is doing very well. This is where you can see the largest selection of my art work and jewellery, and I add new items almost every day. Keep in mind that all prices on this site are in US dollars.

My website is a work in progress, and the best place to go to view and order portraits.

Wabi Brook Studio is also on Facebook! Join my group there and keep up-to-date on my creative activities, new work, and sales. I also have specials exclusively for the members of my group, as well as a monthly draw for a gift certificate.

Summer Art Camps/Instruction

I am very excited to be offering two weeks of art camps this summer. One is a collaboration with my daughter, called "Art on the Farm", and the other is “Extreme Art”. Registration is limited, so get your application and waiver in early.

I am also available for private and group lessons focussing on exploring one's creativity through drawing and painting. Contact me for more information.

My Journey Out of Darkness - Mixed media painting by Julie A. Brown Wabi Brook Studio I look forward to hearing from you and seeing you around town. Please contact me if you have any questions or comments.

Happy Spring,

Julie
